With three more colleges holding their Pro Days today in Georgia Tech, SMU, and Georgia State, you can be sure the San Francisco 49ers will be on hand scouting two talented receivers in WR Albert Wilson(Georgia State) and WR Jeremy Johnson (SMU). Two small school kids hoping to be a late-round draft pick in the upcoming 2014 NFL Draft, they will need a strong combine to just be considered as a potential draft-able prospect. And with the wide receiver class being by far the deepest position, Wilson and Johnson will undoubtedly be on the outside looking in. However, that’s not to say they won’t give up without a fight as they clearly have talent.
Wilson, who reminds me of a poor man’s WR Steve Smith due to his H-W-S (Height, Weight, Speed) combination, as he stands 5-foot-9 and 202 pounds “wowed” scouts with his blazing 4.43 40-yard dash time. In addition to his speed, Wilson also showed off his hops with a 37.5 inch vertical, 123 inch broad jump, 7.00 second 3-cone drill, 4.21 second short shuttle, and 10 reps on the bench press.
On the other hand the 49ers have SMU product Johnson to look at. Just a day after scouting Texas A&M’s WR Mike Evans, I fully expect Regional Scout Bob Morris to continue his evaluation process with Johnson at SMU. Morris who was also seen at Oklahoma State talking to S Shamiel Gary after his Pro Day should in all likelihood be making the trip to University Park.
Last year, saw workout warrior and eventual draftee of the Cincinnati Bengals DE Margus Hunt get worked by New York Jets HC Rex Ryan and this year should see something similar.
With Pro Days continuing we will keep you all updated on the latest news surrounding the 49ers and team scouts as it unfolds.
