49ers’ Aldon Smith arrested at LAX after random screening

First it was San Francisco 49ers CB Chris Culliver in hot water and now it’s his best friend on the team in OLB Aldon Smith as Smith was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for saying the word “bomb” in the airport terminal. The All-Pro outside linebacker was detained after he was randomly selected for a secondary screening and according to reports was “belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding toward the gate area.”

Sgt. Karla Ortiz released a statement as she said:

At approximately 1400 hrs, a 25-year-old male resident of San Jose, California, was going through Terminal 1 screening and was randomly selected for a secondary screening. Los Angeles Airport Police made contact with him at the gate and he was positively identified as the person in question.  Once again the male subject became uncooperative and he was detained and taken into custody by Airport Police and is currently being transported to LAPD for booking.

With Smith being booked on charges in Los Angeles, it remains to be seen not when but who is next, as the 49ers off-season has been nothing short of disappointing. 49ers GM Trent Baalke released a statement saying:

We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith. As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment.
