The San Francisco 49ers announced today the signing of rookie second-round pick (No. 57) RB Carlos Hyde. At 6-0 and 230 pounds of muscle, Hyde will be a force to be reckoned with as a human bowling ball between the tackles. At the NFL scouting combine Hyde put up a 4.66 40-yard dash, 19 reps on the bench-press, 34.5-inch vertical, and 114-inch broad-jump. Aside from those measurables it’s Hyde’s skill set that made him highly targeted by GM Trent Baalke.
Hyde’s power running style fits OC Greg Roman’s scheme to a tee and with him sitting there late in the second-round, the 49ers could not help but find a solid backup for RB Frank Gore. In 2013, Hyde had 208 carries for 1,521 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Great numbers on the field it has been his off-field problems that hurt his draft stock. Hyde was suspended for the first three games of the 2013 season for a bar fight altercation with a woman and while his work ethic may be in question, his production and game-film speaks for itself so the “value” was there.
With Hyde under contract that brings the total number of signed rookies to five.
